How to sit at a desk with better computer posture
There is no single pose to hold all day. Start with a comfortable neutral position, then change position regularly instead of staying still for hours.
Start with a neutral desk posture
- Keep your head level and generally in line with your torso.
- Relax your shoulders.
- Keep elbows close to your body.
- Keep hands, wrists, and forearms straight and roughly parallel to the floor.
- Support your feet and back.
Set up the screen before blaming your posture
A screen that is too low, too far away, or hard to read can encourage leaning and looking down. Place it directly in front of you, adjust its height, and increase text size when needed.
Move instead of chasing one perfect pose
Even a comfortable posture should change during the day. Make small chair adjustments, stand up, walk periodically, and vary tasks when possible.
